How The Omicron Spike Can Affect Your Loved One’s Care
The start of 2022 is off to a challenging one as the US begins to see some of the largest spikes in Covid-19 that we’ve seen in recent months. One of the biggest drivers of the current spike we are in appears to be from the Omicron variation and how it appears to be much more transmissible than previous variants.
As hospitals and healthcare facilities may be facing challenges around caring for hospitalizations, the effects aren’t just limited to hospitals. The increase in cases from Omicron could have rippling effects down to assisted living care facilities. The first issue being that Omicron might be able to easily pass through an entire care facility and residents could suffer from the symptoms or complications that come from the disease.
Another reality that some Texas assisted living facilities might be facing are staff shortages. As staff members might catch Omicron and test positive, they might be forced to stay home until they have recovered from the virus. This means that the assisted living care worker industry already in demand might be strained even more.
The staff shortage could be also creating a flex in the number of new residents that a facility is willing to take on. If they have determined that they can only be on an 80% capacity until the spike begins to dip, you need to wait before your loved one is accepted as a new resident.
These challenges are daunting and can create a lot of issues/inconveniences for everybody. It is important to be prepared for these as a caretaker to try and get ahead of these things before they become an issue.
